After the dark arts of the Black House it was time to burst back into the light with a trip further north to see where local tea is grown at the Choui Fong Tea Plantation.
We had quite a distance to go on our little scooter as the plantation we were aiming for was around 40 km north. A few rest stops later to ease our numb bottoms and we made it to the turn off for the Choui Fong Tea Plantation.
Following the signs along the small lane we began to wonder if we were heading the right way. Taking another twist in the road we suddenly saw the sweeping terraces of lush green tea plants ahead of us.
It really was a stunning setting and we had to have a quick pause on the way up to the main factory and shop area to take in the view. Making it to the end of the road we parked up and went in search of refreshment.
Green Tea Based Treats
Beside the factory there’s a cafe and shop with a terrace to sit and enjoy the views whilst sampling the local produce. I went for a Thai iced tea and Kristina tried a hot green Jasmine tea but the real treat were the accompanying sweet treats.
I went for a Green Tea Cheesecake which had a very fresh and slightly minty flavour with a lovely biscuit base.
Kristina opted for a Green Tea Tiramisu which still had a slight coffee flavour but the main taste was the refreshing green tea.
After enjoying our tasty treats and picking up the bill of a whopping 320 THB we headed down the steps to walk in amongst the plants and shoot a quick video. The light was already beginning to fade slightly so it was time to jump back on the scooter and back to our accommodation in Chiang Rai.
Just another amazing day in Northern Thailand. Cheers!
