Seriously, if you want to lose weight, go jiving! It’s so intense and so much fun! It’ the second time we went jiving. The Rivoli Ballroom is the only 1950s ballroom remaining in London and it literally sits on our door step in Brockley! How can you not go!? It’s famous for it’s original and very red decor and recently has been used as a film location to shoot The Muppets.
The Rivoli Ballroom hosts monthly dance events with live jive and swing music, I promise you, it’s ace! Here is my outfit for the night. I was very happy with my hair. It brought me back to my childhood. I used to wear my hair like this when I was a teenager.
The Rivoli Ballroom
The building itself might look a little grotty from the outside, but it’s all fast forgotten as soon as you walk into the dimmed reception with the red wallpaper and sparkly chandeliers. Most of people make the effort to follow the 50ies theme and everyone looks amazing. Guys wearing shiny ‘John Travolta’ hair and girls swinging their floral 50’es skirts.
As soon as you walk into the intense red Rivoli Ballroom, you are greeted by the lovely Jackson Sloan – amazing r&b and Jazz performer.
The atmosphere is really hot, by all means when the night kicks off with a one hour lesson. We tried to learn some basic Jive moves, not an easy stuff!
And then it gets hotter and hotter… Lots of dancing, gin & tonic sipping, skirt swinging and laughing. Amongst the newbies there are several professional jivers spinning around and boy do they know how to jive!
The space is incredible and the atmosphere is always great. Charlie and I celebrated our birthdays here and got most of our friends to dress up in 50’ies outfit (to the best of our ability).
If you fancy something different and fun, definitely book your ticket for the Jive night in Brockley, they sell out quickly.
